Nearly the whole of Tamale Metropolis is in total darkness on Monday, November 20, following total power outage.

The outage, which occurred at 5:45pm, kept residents of the Metropolis wondering when the problem would be fixed.

The Communications Department of the Volta River Authority of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (VRA/NEDco), in a brief statement copied citifmonline.com, explained that there were challenges at the control room at the Choggu-Hilltop substation.

The statement said management had taken steps to fix the problem, and apologized to residents of the Tamale Metropolis for the inconvenience caused.

But citifmonline.com further gathered that fire gutted a portion of the Choggu-Hilltop sub-station, hence the power outage.

The Head of Communications of the VRA/NEDco, Maxwell Kotoka, confirmed the burning of eleven panels in an interview with citifmonline.com.

According to him, the rapid response of the Ghana National Fire Service personnel prevented more damages. He assured the affected communities that power would be restored as soon as practicable.

There are concerns criminals may take advantage of the darkness to commit crimes.
