NDC, Montie FM owners pay Supreme Court fines

54436454The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Network Broadcasting Limited and Zeze Media Operators of Montie FM on Thursday paid their fines as ordered by the Supreme Court.

The fines amounted to a total of GHC 90,000.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday sentenced Salifu Maase aka Mugabe, a presenter at the NDC affiliated radio station and two panelists Alistair Nelson and Godwin Ako Gunn, to a four month imprisonment term. They were additionally fined GHC 10,000 failure to pay at the close of Thursday July 28, would have attracted additional one month prison term.

The trio were found guilty of scandalizing the court, defying and lowering the authority of the Supreme Court and bringing it into disrepute.

Ako Gunn and Alistair on June 29, warned judges of Ghana’s highest court to be wary of their conduct in the case involving the Electoral Commission and Mr Abu Ramadan if they did not want to suffer the fate of the three members of the bench who were shot to death and burnt on June 30, 1982 in the era of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC).

Owners of the station were all found guilty of contempt and were fined GHc30, 000, to be paid to the court by close of day Thursday or face a jail term of one month.

Lawyer Edudzi Tamekloe, Counsel for Salifu Maase aka Mugabe, in an interview with Kasapa News Thursday evening confirmed that the both the NDC party and the owners of the station have duly paid the fines.
