Charger Ghana Limited, the producers of Happy Man Bitters have revealed their interest in becoming the headline sponsor of the Ghana Premier League.

The country’s top-flight football has been without no headline sponsor after the Zylofon five-year deal was terminated.

According to the Chief Executive Officer, Dr Emmanuel Borketey Bortey, his outfit were on the verge of sealing a deal to sponsor the Ghana Premier League but the deal came to a halt following the airing of the ‘Number 12’ video by AnasAremayaw Anas.

“Before the Anas exposè, Happy Man Bitters as a brand, we had a management meeting and decided to sponsor the league but we decided to start with some of the local clubs so we sponsored the National Circles Council of Asante Kotoko, Aduana Stars, Berekum Chelsea and we also sponsored some lower division teams, which included Kasana Nankana Football Club,” he told Accra-based media outlet Eclipse Broadcasting Network.

He continued: “This was meant to test the viability of investing in the nation’s most loved sport and thankfully, the current GFA administration are on the right track and we are happy about it so we want to focus attention to the main league.”

He reiterated Happy Man Bitters’ willingness to sponsor the league on a long-term basis.

“We simply don’t want to enter into a sponsorship deal and do it for just a year or two and leave the scene because that will not be good for our brand,” he added.

Football has come to a halt since March 15. However, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) will make a final pronouncement on June 30 on the future of football.
