Don’t Abuse God’s Privilege

thumb (1)Many Christians today behave like the Israelites in the Bible days, who took the special privileges God gave them for granted. God has nothing to lose if He decides not to come to the aid of human beings; but, out of love and care, He comes to our rescue any time we need Him or are in very serious situations.

However, instead of appreciating Him and using the privilege of being rescued to praise Him and show forth His glory to others, we focus on the few difficulties we have and either insult Him or complain over needless things.

In Exodus 2:23-25, Bible says: “During that long period, the king of Egypt died. The Israelites groaned in their slavery and cried out, and their cry for help because of their slavery went up to God. God heard their groaning and he remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac and with Jacob. So God looked on the Israelites and was concerned about them.”

God heard the cry of the Israelites who were suffering under the harsh rule of the Egyptians and brought them His servant Moses who led them out of Egypt, to the Promised Land.

When the Israelites crossed the Red Sea, after the scare from the Egyptians who pursued them, they sang songs of praise to the Lord (Exodus 15:1-19).

However, when they came to the Desert of Sin and had no water to drink, they started grumbling against Moses and Aaron, questioning them over bringing them out of Egypt to a place of suffering (Exodus 16:1-).

In the face of some difficulty, the Israelites forgot that they themselves asked God to bring them out of Egypt and now they are blaming the servants God used to deliver them, thereby blaming God indirectly. How do we see God when we face challenges? Do we praise Him or complain?

Complaining in the face of challenges is abuse of privilege. We need to always thank God if not for nothing at all, for our salvation.

We were objects of wrath (Ephesians 2:-3) that God had mercy on and brought us through Jesus Christ into His marvellous light. So when we face challenges and difficulties, we need to remember our past and praise Him, knowing that He has the best of plans for us.

Some of us forget about how we were some years back when we were praying to God to open a door for us in the area of employment, marriage, travel or finances; but, instead of using those opens doors to glorify His name for others to know Him, we end up complaining over the least thing that happens to us.

It is a privilege to be saved and for God to open a door for you. You abuse that privilege when you don’t use it to win souls or glorify His name.

God strategically positions many Christians to be His vessels of spreading His word and reaching out to souls but we fail because we fail to see the privilege we have and rather magnify our problems to the point of forgetting the purpose for which God put us where we are.

If God gives you a commercial vehicle, it is an opportunity to use it to glorify Him by distributing tracts to your passengers; if you are a receptionist, you can do same with your visitors or customers, thereby ministering to souls.

Christians have no reason to murmur at all but rather they need to make their request known to God through prayer and supplications and allow the peace of God to reign in their life (Philippians 4:6-7).

More importantly, we need to seek ways by which we can do God’s work with the privileges He has given us.

Don’t abuse the privilege for many are looking for it but not finding it.
