NPP National Delegates Conference To Be Postponed

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Steering Committee is expected to meet next week to reschedule the date for its 2018 National Annual Delegates Conference.

The NPP had earlier announced that it will hold its National Delegates Conference in Koforidua in the Eastern Region from June 15 to June 17, 2018.

The acting General Secretary of the party, however, said the decision to reschedule the election has become necessary “due to the possibility of a clash with the date of observance of Eid-Ul- Fitr.”

He added that the “venue for the conference and every other arrangement including vetting and other electoral arrangements, will remain unchanged.”

On the date for the conference, John Boadu pointed out that there is a high possibility of a 3-week postponement because President Akufo-Addo would be out of the jurisdiction for various international engagements in the first two Saturdays that come after the initial date.

In view of this, Mr. Boadu indicated that the earliest date the party can hold the 2018 National Annual Delegates conference is July 7, subject to approval by the party’s National Steering Committee when it meets early next week.

This year’s congress is aimed at electing a new set of national officers who will run the affairs of the party for the next four years.

The congress is being held pursuant to Article 10(2) and (3) of the NPP constitution which mandates the National Annual Delegates to meet at least four weeks after last Regional Annual Delegate Conference.

NPP closes nomination
Meanwhile, nomination for persons seeking to contest for national executive positions within the party will close today [Thursday].

The party opened nominations on 3rd May, 2018.
A total of 48 persons have so far picked up forms for the eight national positions available.
