Monies Embezzled And Misused Will Be Coughed Up If I’m Elected Prez – Mahama Assures Ghanaians
Former President and flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, has accused members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) of living vulgar and opulent lifestyles like Arabian Kings, at the expense of the ordinary Ghanaian.
According to him, notwithstanding the harsh socio-economic difficulties that the current administration has heaped on Ghanaians, some of these officials and their families flaunt their ill-gotten wealth in the faces of the public by sometimes chartering private jets at $20,000 per hour for trips.
He has therefore vowed to retrieve every single Cedi unlawfully taken from taxpayers that has been embezzled and misused by government appointees.
The former President’s statement was in relation to the former Sanitation Minister’s minister, Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah’s alleged unexplained source of the monies found in her Abelemkpe residence
“Notwithstanding all these socio-economic difficulties, the young people continue to observe the opulence of the [New Patriotic Party] administration’s officials and their families chartering private jets at $20,000 per hour for trips that our own Falcon Executive Jet could have done.
“And as the Minister for Defence explained, it [the Falcon Executive Jet] had no shower for a presidential bath. Ghana’s youth have further experienced how a minister could stash millions of dollars in her home and only God knows the full extent of Ghanaian taxpayers’ money that has been stashed away by many others.
“But I say to the good people of Ghana that, working with Ghanaians and international anti-corruption partners, we shall do all that is humanly possible to retrieve such wrongly acquired wealth,” Mr Mahama stated.
He was addressing Ghanaians and the general public on matters of national interest dubbed, ”Mahama Conversations,” on Sunday June 9th.
The NDC Flagbearer further indicated that his administration will collaborate with relevant authorities and partners to retrieve monies and properties acquired through corrupt means if he becomes President come December 7, 2024.
He expressed grave discontent over the increase in cases of corruption, and a conspicuous disregard for fiscal discipline engaged in by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia-led government, adding that, he will do his utmost best to recover all monies wrongly and dubiously accrued.
